Vischkot

A small cabin in the shape of a ship hull, cut in twain.

“Hu-Hullow? Wh-who’s there?”

This type of dwelling is commonly seen on the many islands of Scheldtland*.

IT IS A TIMELESS DESIGN, that blends in with the dunes among which these homes are built.
Their construction often includes salvaged shipwrecks, flotsam, or even beached whale carcasses. The residents, referred to as Vischvolk†, are a shy breed whose main focus is fishing and trade along the many shallows and inlets they inhabit. As a rule they avoid conflict, although larger communities sometimes resort to piracy in times of dearth.

A HOUSE BUILT from an actual hull is a status symbol. Originally, it inferred that the occupants were at least shipowners, who had the capital to retire old ships (instead of patching them up time and again) and repurpose them. Then of course it became fashionable and the overall design is now copied using anything from wooden boards to plaited twigs, depending on the most abundant resource on any specific island.
