“An egg for the Duke.”
No matter what your breed or creed is, if you live in the lands of Bos, chances are you love a parade. Stoetery
PARADES AND FESTIVE DISPLAYS are arranged for many occasions, be they social, financial, political, or simply to have a good ole’ bit of entertainment.
THIS CUSTOM is known as Stoetery*. A young bachelor may organize a dancing group to ask the hand of his true love. Merchants will try to outdo each other with colorful companions and eccentric clothing, in an attempt to impress one another and cut a better deal. Noobelliedes, Hartogghes & Prengsen† will arrange spectacular acts during diplomatic missions, conferences or the opening moments of a battle.
PICTURED HERE is a goose who wants to lay an egg for the current Hartogh of Kratat. She has arranged for a Vendeleer‡ and 3 Piekelaers# to escort her. Once in Kratat they will perform mock duels, reenacting scenes of battle & bravery to commemorate the Hartoghs military exploits.
Notes
Stoetery — Messages and invitations are usually extended in exuberant, carnivalesque ways. The means differ in each region, and for every social layer. Islanders will hoist ornate sails and employ finely carved oars. Farmers might dress up in costumes made of sprigs and vegetables. Even the most abject laborers will at least put on a silly hat if they want to present themselves.
Noobelliedes, Hartogghesn & Prengnsen — Noblemen, Dukes & Princes.
Vendeleer — Bannerman; the streamlined Worm embroidery on his banner is tied to an intricate tapestry of symbolism and layered meaning, woven into the eternal traditions of Bos.
Piekelaers — Pikemen; during long stretches of peace-time much of the professional soldiery makes a living as re-enactors, dancers or bodyguards. The ways of Bos often allow them to do all three tasks at once.
