Coudeheerd

The infamous farmstead of the Couster family.

“Always toiling, always poor.”

Dark and silent. Always toiling, always poor.

THE INFAMOUS FARMSTEAD Coudeheerd is the seat of power of Boeriejaan Couster, the rich farmer who owns land as far as the eye can see.

Those who come to his gates looking for work must hand over all their belongings. Instead they will receive a single piece of linnen to be used for clothing. The work is hard and endless, the abuse relentless. But such is life for the wretched and destitute, who’ve no choice but to sell their labor.

Not many choose this life willfully  and most of the workforce consists of debtors to Boeriejaan, exiles from the cities, traumatized veterans, or sons and daughters who brought shame upon their house and were sent here as punishment.

Notes

Coudeheerd — Coldhearth, this stingy household prides itself on having never lighted its main hearth.
It is built in the typical Heerddetrant architectural style.
